South Fork Boise Dam Raise November 8 Open House

What: The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) is considering raising the Anderson Ranch Dam on the South Fork of the Boise River. On November 8th, BOR will be holding an open house event to provide information.

Location: The event will take place at the Wyndham Garden Boise Airport hotel, 3300 S. Vista Ave.

Date/Time: November 8th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm with a short presentation beginning promptly at 6:00pm.

(NOTE:  This meeting conflicts with the monthly BVFF general meeting.)

Why should you attend? A law passed at the end of 2016 gives Reclamation the authority, and likely the funding, to proceed directly to construction upon completion of the study. Therefore, this is the time for you to express to BOR the importance of the South Fork of the Boise River fishery to you and to find out more information and ask questions such as –

  • How would this dam raise impact winter flows for fish both in the South Fork and the Boise River through town?
  • Will spring flushing flows be protected?
  • How much will it cost to raise the dam and will other, possibly less expensive, alternatives be considered such as water conservation or efficiency projects?
  • Will opportunities to provide additional storage for fisheries flows be considered?

If you have questions please email Kira Finkler at Kira.Finkler@tu.org or call Kira, Michael Gibson, or Peter Anderson at the Trout Unlimited national office, at 208.345.9800.
