Expecting up to 1½
million visitors,
making it one of
Idaho’s top tourist attractions
BOISE, Idaho -- Cabela’s®, known as the
World's Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and
outdoor gear, has opened its newest destination
retail store in Boise, Idaho on Friday, August 25,
2006.
Cabela's stores are known as premier shopping and
tourism destinations, drawing visitors from the
local area and from hundreds of miles away. Up to
one and a half million people are expected to visit
the Boise store annually, making it one of the
largest tourist attractions in the state.
The 132,000-square-foot, large-format superstore,
Cabela’s first in Idaho, is located in the Franklin
Towne Plaza shopping center near the junction of
I-184 and I-84 off the Franklin Road exit.
Extraordinary in design and showcasing thousands of
products from its world-famous catalog, a customer’s
average length of stay is a remarkable 3 ½ hours,
with half of the visitors coming from outside of 100
miles.
Typically, the building of a Cabela’s is a major
impetus for additional area development such as
hotels, restaurants and other travel-related
services.
“We are thrilled that Boise will be Cabela's first
location in Idaho, a world-renowned outdoor
destination,” said
Dennis Highby, Cabela’s president and CEO. “Idaho’s
natural resources and its many passionate hunters,
anglers, campers and outdoor recreation enthusiasts
living in the region and well as the many tourists
it attracts from out of state, make the area a
perfect fit for Cabela's.”
The Boise, Idaho store will be built in Cabela’s
trademark style that evokes the feeling of the
outdoors. Cabela’s stores are known as top-notch
educational and entertainment attractions.
Equivalent to nearly three football fields in size,
Cabela’s is much more than a retail store and will
provide unique attractions for every member of the
family including:

Hundreds of animals in extensive
museum-quality dioramas, including an
African scene, which re-creates animals
in action in their native habitats;
